Mathmatics

Department Page:

Math 6 Grade: This course includes developing an understanding of and fluency with multiplication and division of fractions and decimals; connecting ratios and rates to multiplication and division; and writing, interpreting, and using mathematical expressions and equations. The supporting ideas include finding the perimeters and areas of two-dimensional figures; using, comparing, and ordering equivalent forms of fractions, decimals, and percents; and determining and using measures of central tendency to represent, describe, analyze, and summarize a set of data.

Math 7 Grade: This course includes developing an understanding of and applying proportionality (including similarity); developing an understanding of and using formulas to determine surface area and volume of three dimensional shapes; and developing an understanding of operations on all rational numbers and solving linear equations. The supporting ideas include identifying and plotting ordered pairs in the coordinate plane, transformations, converting measurements between the different measurement systems, determining how changes in dimensions affect the perimeter, area, and volume of common geometric figures; constructing and analyzing histograms, stem-and-leaf plots, and circle graphs; and determining, comparing, and making predictions based on experimental or theoretical probability.

Math 8 Grade:  This course includes analyzing and representing linear functions and solving linear equations and systems of linear equations; analyzing two- and three-dimensional figures by using distance and angle; and analyzing and summarizing data sets. The supporting ideas include solving and graphing one and two-step inequalities, comparing, contrasting, and converting measurements between the different measurement systems; and performing operations on real numbers (including integer exponents, radicals, percents, scientific notation, absolute value, rational numbers, and irrational numbers) using multi-step and real world problems.
